What is an assessment centre?

An assessment centre (AC) is a diagnostic process for evaluating the suitability and potential of candidates for leadership positions. Unlike interview-based processes alone, competencies are directly observed and evaluated through realistic tasks, role plays and group exercises — delivering significantly higher predictive validity.

I develop assessment centres that fit your organisational culture and requirements — not a standard catalogue. This begins with requirements analysis: which competencies does the role actually need? Which organisational values should be made measurable?

My ACs are observation-focused: clear behavioural anchors, trained observers, structured evaluation. The result is a differentiated picture — not grades, but a genuine competency profile.

How long does an assessment centre take?

A one-day AC is standard for most leadership positions. For C-level roles, a day-and-a-half format is recommended for deeper insight. Development centres can also be designed as half-day formats.

How many observers does an assessment centre need?

At least two to three trained observers per AC are recommended to minimise observation bias and increase validity. I prepare internal observers on request.

Can an assessment centre be conducted online?

Yes. Digital assessment centres have proven effective and allow the use of video role plays, online tasks and virtual group discussions. Observation quality is comparable to in-person ACs with good preparation.

What does an assessment centre cost?
